Because I Watched K-Dramas: A Journey of Healing, Identity, and Connection

When I first began watching Korean dramas, I never expected them to change the way I see myself, my family, and the world. To many, they are simply entertainment — but for me, K-dramas became a mirror and a companion through some of the most difficult and transformative seasons of my life.

I’m excited to share that my new book, Because I Watched K-Dramas, is now available on Kobo. This book is a collection of reflective essays inspired by the stories, characters, and cultural lessons I’ve encountered in K-dramas. It’s a personal journey of healing, identity, and connection — told through the lens of the shows that touched my heart.

Why This Book?

For years, I carried the weight of caregiving, single parenthood, and personal struggles. At times, it felt isolating and overwhelming. When I discovered K-dramas, I found not just escapism, but also wisdom in the way they explored emotions, family bonds, resilience, and human connection.

They reminded me that healing is never linear, that every relationship carries complexity, and that even in hardship, beauty can be found in everyday life. These reflections gradually shaped my perspective — and ultimately became the foundation of this book.

What You’ll Find Inside

In Because I Watched K-Dramas, I dive into:

  • Lessons on Family and Love – How dramas like Reply 1988 and The Good Bad Mother reminded me of the invisible threads binding generations.

  • Reflections on Identity and Growth – What My Liberation Notes and Daily Dose of Sunshine taught me about solitude, healing, and mental health.

  • Understanding Grief and Connection – How stories of brotherhood, friendship, and loss in Melo Movie resonated deeply with my own experiences.

  • Cultural Appreciation – The unique ways Korean storytelling blends humor, pain, and everyday beauty to capture the human condition.

Each essay blends my personal journey with the emotional richness of these shows, offering readers both storytelling and reflection.

Part of a Larger Journey

This book is more than just about K-dramas. It’s about the process of documenting my own growth, translating insights from screen to self, and creating something that could speak to others who may be searching for connection or comfort.

It also represents another milestone in my creative path under SJW Digital — where I continue to design, write, and publish works that aim to inspire and connect. Alongside my previous works like The Healing Journal and Heal, this book carries the same spirit of honesty and encouragement, but with a uniquely K-drama twist.

Read the Book

I would love for you to join me on this journey. Whether you’re a fellow K-drama fan or someone looking for reflective reading on life and healing, this book was written with you in mind.
